Recently, I had the privilege of guest posting on one of my favorite travel websites, Explore River Cruises. In my article, titled, “Places to See on a Rhine River Cruise,” I described our experience of cruising down the Rhine River from Basel, Switzerland, to Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
For us, it was the most interesting, scenic, and magical trip that my husband and I have ever taken. During our 8-day, 4-country excursion, we experienced a whirlwind of historic landmarks, breathtaking scenery, and delicious authentic cuisine.
During that cruise, we traveled through the Bavarian Forest, toured a working cuckoo clock factory and sampled cherry-topped Black Forest cake.
We visited centuries-old castles – still standing at strategic points along the river. We shopped for creamy Swiss chocolate at the Lindt Schokoladen Museum.
We feasted on authentic German Bratwurst and sauerkraut. (It tastes so different over there!) We wine tasted in Alsace, France, where cellars still use barrels dating back to 1732!
When we reached the Netherlands, we stretched our legs along the dikes and visited the living quarters of a working windmill in the UNESCO district.
In Amsterdam, we visited the famous Van Gogh Museum, the famous floating flower market, and delighted in some of the most unique architecture in Europe.
