Every year, we spend at least two months with family in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The photographic architecture, crisp clean air, strikingly bright blue skies, earthy smells of lavender and sage, and, of course, the Balloon Fiesta make this one of our favorite destination spots in the Great Southwest.

But let’s not forget that one of the best aspects about Albuquerque is the variety of restaurants offering authentic New Mexican cuisine. The city is a true foodie’s destination, and we recently discovered yet another darling place that we’ll be calling one of our favorites!
The Farm to Table is, as so many others, an authentic older home-turned-eatery. The brown adobe exterior contrasts with colorful Talavera pots and brightly painted settees decorate the front courtyard and comfortable outdoor patio area complete with a play area for the youngsters. The interior is not-too-rehabbed but seriously southwestern. Low ceilings, cedar beams, terra cotta floors, colorful eating nooks.

As our server lists the seasonal specials, we knew it was going to be a difficult decision on what to eat. Berry scones, cinnamon coffee cake, fresh-off-the-griddle tortillas. Red and green chile, pintos and country potatoes. Everything is everything homemade and, judging by the smells, it must be true! Our mouths were watering the minute we hit the door.
My choice was Migas, a mixture of scrambled eggs or tofu, with country potatoes, pinto beans, and red or green chile. A small green leafy was served with every plate – hand-picked right out of their garden probably the same morning we were there. When our order arrived, we passed our plates around like little kids so that we could each try a bite of everything. OMG, everything was delicious and we didn’t leave a single bite!

La Parada Gift
After our brunch, we headed next door to the adjoining La Parada, the small shop attached to the restaurant. If you are looking for an authentic New Mexico something, this is a find. Postcard-perfect displays of fresh veggies, various local artisan products, vintage items, and handmade furniture. Theirs is a super selection of iron wall hangings and sconces for about any size of candle.
